Just like its city, Venezia FC is rich in outstanding history. Originally founded in a restaurant called "Da Nane in Corte dell'Orso" near Campo San Bortolomio as Venezia Foot Ball Club in 1907, the club has spent a large part of its history in Italy's top two divisions before being relegated from Serie B and declared bankrupt at the end of the 2004/05 season.

Ambitions to rebuild the club in 2005/06 - starting from Italy’s fourth division - ended in yet another bankruptcy in 2009. With Venice in danger of being without a football club, Mayor Massimo Cacciari personally supervised the foundation of a new club. “Foot Ball Club Unione Venezia” was admitted to Serie D and quickly promoted to Series C. After two seasons on the third tier, the club went bankrupt for a third time in 10 years.

In September 2015, a group of American investors acquired the club and re-founded it as Venezia FC. Within five years, the club recorded a rapid rise through the leagues and returned to first-tier Italian football after 19 years in 2020/21. However, their time in Serie A would be short-lived, as they would be relegated at the end of the season.

This season, as Venezia FC had just secured another return to the Serie A, the Italian GQ revealed that rapper Drake saved Venezia from yet another bankruptcy, injecting a total of €40 million into the club. Well, buona fortuna!
